Quick Drop Biscuit

Who doesn’t love a great drop biscuit? ? Luckily, we don’t have any gluten issues in our house! Although, an intervention may be needed at some point. I used to be guilty of grabbing the refrigerated pre-made biscuits. Then I progressed to making biscuits with Bisquick until I tried this recipe from Something Homemade. It is so easy and versatile, you will never go back to the pre-made dough again.

If you manage to have some left over, they are a favorite in our house for next day breakfast sandwiches.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour*
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/4 cup chilled buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 475F.
  2. Whisk together flour and sugar in a medium bowl.
  3. Stir together buttermilk and 1/2 cup melted butter in a two-cup glass measuring cup.
  4. Stir buttermilk mixture into flour mixture until dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  5. Drop dough by level scoops (3 tablespoon scoop aka #24 scoop) for 10 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Brush biscuits with 3 tablespoons melted butter using a pastry brush. Then serve.

* If you don’t have self-rising flour, you can make your own with all-purpose flour. For each cup of all-purpose flour, add 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.

Optional: To make savory biscuits add chopped chives and shredded cheese on top or slice the biscuit in half and add those ingredients there.

I hope you give this recipe a try. It really is a great one and a true favorite of mine. You can have the biscuits as a side to a delicious dinner and don’t forget to try the leftovers for a breakfast sandwich. Yum!

I will share another recipe with you soon,
