Get Your Greens Smoothie

I will admit that I am not the most creative person with the green smoothies. I don’t like them loaded with fruits (a.k.a. Jamba Juice), that kind of defeats the purpose of a veggie smoothie, doesn’t it? I figure if I am going to have boatloads of sugar, it will come in the form of a cookie or wine, just being honest here.

I am big about feeding my boys a good hearty breakfast, but I, myself, am not a big breakfast person. Yes, I am guilty of the “double-double” espresso breakfast. I do know that I need something nutritious if I am going to be exercising or need to be checked in mentally. There is nothing worse than the mid-morning crashing from not having a healthy breakfast.

This is a great breakfast green smoothie from Joe Cross, Reboot with Joe. You can always add a greens protein powder. I also add Billy’s Infinity Greens to all my smoothies.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1 celery stick
  • 1 small cored apple
  • 8 ounces water or unsweetened coconut water
  • 3  kale (Tuscan cabbage) leaves
  • 3 romaine lettuce leaves
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 handful of ice cubes

Optional Ingredients: 1 date for added sweetness, a scoop of greens protein powder, or a tablespoon of Billy’s Infinity Greens.

Directions

  1. Cut the cucumber and celery in half or into even quarters. Place them in the blender.
  2. Add the apple, water or unsweetened coconut water, and all the greens.
  3. Add any optional ingredients.
  4. Blend on high until all the ingredients are mixed well.
  5. Add the remaining ingredients (banana and ice).
  6. Blend for at least 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until smooth.
  7. Drink right away or store in an airtight glass container for up to 24 hours.

Let me know if you give this smoothie a try or what other ingredients you like to add to your green smoothies in the comments.

I will share another recipe with you soon,
